There are so many reasons why you should!

You have heard the reasons why you should do yoga. It lowers stress, helps you sleep, improves flexibility, keeps your heart healthy, AND IMPROVES YOUR BRAIN!

Twenty minutes of yoga improves the brain's ability to quickly and accurately process information (even more so than running does), says a study published in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.

"While most exercise gives you a choice to either zone in or zone out, yoga encourages you to return to the present and pay attention," Dr. Zimmerman says. "This mindful awareness has been correlated with structural changes in the brain, including growth in the prefrontal cortex, a brain region associated with executive function, working memory, and attention."

One of our favorite yoga resources, whether you are a novice or an expert, is Gaia.com . They have hundreds of different yoga programs with different instructors, styles, and experience levels.

If you want to introduce your child to Yoga, we recommend starting with the book Bee Calm, The Buzz on Yoga, by Frank J. Sileo. Read the book together and try some of the poses that are discussed in the book. To see the different poses, a good resource is Yoga Journal.
